Jacopo Da San Martino, the restless artist, in touch with his beloved material, the wood: he warps, attacks, enriches it, always respecting its deep nobilty and exalting its soul.
The artwork borns in lonely and silent walks in the forest and then moves to a photograph, fixed and laid down on the wood panel, already prepared, carved and softened: a liaison amoureuse between the uniqueness of the photo and the eternal stratification of the veneers.
The escaping moment is opposed to the calm stability of the tree: the artist perceptions transforms this contrast in a solid harmony.
Jacopo Da San Martino was born in Viareggio in 1678. He studied in Lucca and in Carrara Art School,
In 2010 he won the First Prize in Borgo a Mozzano (Lucca) art competition.
In 2009 he participated in a holy art master, in Stauròs Foundation (Scopoli, Perugia).
He participated in 54° Venice Biennial.
